Here's
"Hula Apples" about 2/3 blocked in.

Here's a detail
of the surfer.

Here is
"Hula Apples" blocked in with it's
initial oil washes. Now I will apply the final
layer of paint, adjusting color, values and
detail.

I've begun the
final application of oil paint in the background.
I've painted the sky and the lettering of both
'HULA" and 'Apples'.

Notice how I've
darkened the background so that the light on the
surfer's face shows up. Compare it to the detail
three photos above.

As soon as I
paint the 'hula girl', the background will be
completed.

Here's Charlie,
all finished!

Here
is the beginning of my next painting,
"Hula Apples". I
am using an old apple crate label as my
background. 1960's Surfer magazines,
a Hawaiian ceramic bowl, a 1962 23 window
VW microbus and some apples are my
foreground props.
Scroll
down to see Charlie, a friend and local
surfer who will be standing on the rocks
(apples) with his longboard, checking out
the surf.
Follow
the photos down as the painting
progresses.
